Internet Safety
Iowa Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force -- The Iowa lnternet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, in partnership with the Iowa Attorney General's Office, is a strong community resource in the effort to increase awareness about safeguards that can help to prevent the victimization of our children. The website lists tips that can make you and your child’s use of the internet more fun and a little safer.
The mission of the Iowa Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force is to deter, prevent, investigate and prosecute predators who seek to exploit or engage minors in sexual activity through the use of computers and the internet. ICAC educates the general public and law enforcement about the risks and potential hazards that are present while on-line.
Safe Surfing – What children may access while on the Internet is nearly infinite. Resources are available to assist parents in setting age-appropriate limits, monitor use, help a child recognize dangers, and ultimately keep a son or daughter safe from predators.
FBI’s Guide – Many parents understand the dangers of the Internet, but do not know how to protect a child or know when it might be too late. The Federal Bureau of Investigations provides an outline to what a parent can do to identify the signs that a child may be in trouble and what a parent can do to help.
Cyberbullying – The expansion of the Internet provides more opportunity for school bullies to target victims. Addressing a child about the affects of harassment, proper Internet use, and the consequences of specific actions may deter a son or daughter from being bullied or becoming a bully.
